'Ozarks' star gets probation for gun charge

By The Associated Press

This article was published June 24, 2014 at 6:59 a.m.

HARDY — An Arkansas man featured on Clash of the Ozarks has been sentenced to three years of probation and six months of home detention after pleading guilty to a federal gun charge.

Prosecutors accused Kerry Wayne Evans of illegally possessing an unregistered machine gun. Evans appeared on Discovery Channel's reality show Clash of the Ozarks, which highlights two feuding families in the Arkansas town of Hardy.

Evans had faced up to 10 years in prison on the charge. He was sentenced in a court hearing Friday and was also fined $4,000.

In a court filing, Evans' attorney described his client as "devoted to his community and exceptionally involved in civic activities." The filing says Evans takes responsibility for illegally possessing the gun.

A spokesman for the Discovery Channel declined to comment.

What happened to the 2nd Amendment?

wyzical, I think you missed the item > "unregistered machine gun". You can own one of these, BUT you must have the proper credentials and it must be registered. This is one of the few gun 'laws' with which I agree.

Wyz, it is called law enforcement. It is long settled law that full fire machine guns are illegal. This guy even admits it and actually got off very light because of his good reputation. Do not bitch about the 2 Amendment in this type of cases

Why should a right be taxed?

With the rate the gun nuts are shooting off their own genitalia these days, America's sick obsession should take care of itself rather quickly.

What a hoot watching these insecure whiners compensate for their obvious, uh, "shortcomings" by amassing their pathetic arsenals!

So, basically, the only reason he got off light was because of the TV show? I've read other article about people getting real prison time because of illegal machine guns. He should have gone to prison too.

If an "inner city youth" got caught with an unregistered machine gun - I'm guessing a full 10yrs. How come we don't observe the laws already on the books? Right? That's what the NRA is always saying.

Hey djigoo - Surfergoo, dude, you must be talking about same sex marriage ("America's sick obsession should take care of itself rather quickly"), since same sex couples cannot naturally procreate. Isn't that the genesis of your "take care of itself" postulate and genitalia?

Maybe you should ask my husband's three biological children, you insufferable moron.

Fish in a barrel.

Hey djigoo - Surfergoo, dude, why all the hate? "....insufferable moron." Is a sufferable moron less of a moron than an insufferable moron? Since your husband has three biological children, what foods did you crave when you were pregnant with your husband's children? Point, set, match, game again I win.
.
Just curious, but at what point did your "husband" choose to start playing for the other team? Or is he a switch hitter? Goodness, surfergoo, was your "hubby" born to hit one way, then the other, and then both? And remember, surfergoo, you're the one that brought your "husband" into this discussion, not me.
