Bee Branch man killed after collision in Clinton

A Bee Branch man was killed Wednesday when his pickup collided with a truck as it turned onto U.S. 65 in Clinton.

Arkansas State Police say Jimmy D. Newell, 72, was turning his 2006 Ford F150 left out of a Clinton bank to head south about 11:30 a.m. when it was hit in the driver's side door by a northbound Peterbilt truck.

Newell died at the scene. A 10-year-old passenger in his pickup was taken to Arkansas Children's Hospital and the truck driver was taken to Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton. Their conditions weren't clear Thursday morning.

The death was one of two in traffic crashes in Arkansas on Wednesday, raising the number of fatalities in accidents so far this year to 198, according to preliminary figures.
