Ex-officer accused of pointing gun at boy gets court delay

FORT SMITH — A judge has delayed a hearing in the case of a former Arkansas police officer accused of pointing a gun at a child in eastern Oklahoma.

Namaan Matthew Adcock of Muldrow, Okla., is charged with pointing a firearm, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of reckless conduct with a firearm. Authorities allege that Adcock threatened to shoot a 5-year-boy and pointed a weapon at deputies when they arrived at the home.

Adcock was due in court Wednesday, but Sequoyah County District Court Judge Larry Langley granted a request from the defense to delay proceedings. The Southwest Times Record reports that Adcock is now due in court Aug. 20.

Adcock resigned from the Fort Smith Police Department May 28. He had been a patrol officer and employee since May 2011.
