The hummingbirds are coming

Four (4) is the number to remember for hummingbirds — as in 4-to-1, the ratio of water to sugar when making homemade nectar; and 1-to-4, the ratio of bleach to water in the solution used to clean their feeders.

Four is also the number of days a hummingbird feeder should go without being cleaned and refilled.

And then there is the fourth important “four” — July Fourth, the approximate date when ruby-throated hummingbirds begin their southward migration to Mexico and Central America.
