Thunderstorms are expected across Arkansas again Friday, with the southeast half of the state bearing the brunt in the afternoon, forecasters said.
Severe weather is likely to be isolated “and limited to a very few instances of wind damage or hail,” National Weather Service warning coordination meteorologist John Robinson said in a statement. But, he said, threats from lightning and heavy rain “will be considerably greater.”
On Thursday, about 4,700 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes hit the state between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m., Robinson said. In addition, some areas received heavy downpours of more than 2 inches of rain in less than an hour, he said.
Severe thunderstorms will be a little more likely Saturday, especially in Northwest Arkansas, where “plenty of lightning and some locally heavy rain” is expected, especially in the afternoon and evening, Robinson said.
