FORREST CITY, Ark. — Heavy rain is forcing evacuations in eastern Arkansas as creeks swell due to runoff.
KLRT reports that 10 homes have been evacuated in Monroe County.
Glen Willis with the Independence County office of emergency management says heavy rainfall there has caused several county roads to become impassable and culverts and bridges to be washed out. Willis says authorities have not made any rescues.
He says Highway 25 between Desha and the county line was blocked due to water. The intersection of Highway 25 and Highway 14 was also closed for about two hours due to high water.
The National Weather Service in Little Rock reports that Howell, Arkansas, in nearby Woodruff County, saw 8.73 inches of rain between midnight and about 6 a.m. Sunday.
