Sizzling Rock the Runway aids cancer institute, patients

It's been referred to as a New York-inspired show, but given its popularity and "wow" factor, the annual Rock the Runway might just turn the heads of a few New Yorkers.

Held June 19 in the River Market pavilions in Little Rock and co-chaired by Allyson Pittman and Heather Mason Owens, the event featured attendees decked out in the requested black and white cocktail attire. High temperatures and relentless humidity dampened some of the finery, but not the high spirits.

Alyse Eady and Anthony Lucas were masters of ceremonies for the fast-paced show, preceded by a reception and a live auction. Featured fashions included those from Barbara Jean, B. Barnett, Beehive, Beyond Cotton, Dillard's, E. Leigh's, Forsythe's-Kristin Todd, The Independent, Indigo, Lavender, Pure Barre, Roberson's Fine Jewelry, Scarlet, Southern Accented, SteamRoller Blues and Vesta's. The final look for each boutique was modeled by a sign-carrying cancer survivor or cancer fighter.

At the conclusion of the show, guests headed across the street to an after-party at Cache Restaurant & Lounge.

Rock the Runway was a benefit for the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Fighting Fancy, a nonprofit organization founded by Owens that provides bags laden with gifts and necessities to young women ages 15-39 going through chemotherapy. With total proceeds from a silent auction and raffle pending, the event raised $80,000, according to Pittman. Proceeds will be split evenly between its two beneficiaries and used for their individual patient support services for women battling various forms of cancer.
