FORT SMITH — Officials say passenger traffic at Fort Smith Regional Airport is up by more than 7 percent in the first five months of this year.

Airport operations director Michael Griffin said a large percentage of the airport's traffic comes from business travelers. The airport serves as an entry point for many manufacturers in the area.

The airport offers daily flights to Dallas-Fort Worth and Atlanta, and also provides general aviation space. The facility is also home to Razorback Approach Control, which serves as central air command for all air traffic in northwest Arkansas.

According to the Southwest Times Record, passenger traffic through May is up by 7.2 percent over the same period a year ago.
