Arkansas candidate legally changes name to 'Colonel'

By The Associated Press

This article was published March 3, 2014 at 12:48 p.m.

A retired Army colonel who was unable to use his military title on the ballot when he ran for a U.S. Senate seat in Arkansas four years ago found a way to use that designation now that he's running for Congress. This time, it's his legal name.

A spokesman for the Arkansas secretary of state's office said Monday that Conrad Reynolds can be referred to as "Colonel" on the ballot after legally changing his name to include the title. Reynolds is one of three Republicans running for the 2nd Congressional District.

Reynolds tried to use the title as a nickname when he ran for Senate in 2010, but state law prevents professional or honorary titles from being used as nicknames. Reynolds had his name legally changed last month.

Any kernel obsessed with a title to this degree might have a few psychological issues.
Analyze That!!!

It only took him 23 years to earn the Title, maybe he is just proud of it. Maybe there was a lot of work put in keep him from using his non-honorary nickname. Everybody calls him Colonel.
Obsessed? No just standing up for himself. He knows who he is, and now so will voters in the booth. That worries some - they're called opponents.

That's going to make a huge difference, Colonel.

About all that work put into him not using his nickname - how old is that state law about using proper names and do you really want us to believe that an old state law was specifically written with the Chicken Nugget (my nickname for him) in mind? And how does having a title make you a better or more electable person?

It's just cheap theatrics. How can I respect a guy who changes his name to get elected rather than have a good plan for the state and country. I don't vote for a man because of his name or title. I require ideas and goal.

I respect Reynolds military service, his work for veterans since leaving the service, and his community involvement. I do not, however, respect this kind of stunt. It cheapens all the good he has done and makes him a person who will stoop to something one would expect from media whores.

One more comment: Why doesn't he just go all the way and change his last name to Sanders. Then he can have a new nickname: Extra Crispy.
