Springdale man killed after SUV hits I-540 wall

A 35-year-old Springdale man was killed Sunday after the sport utility vehicle he was riding in veered out of control in a curve and hit a retaining wall, authorities said.

It happened shortly before 2 p.m. on Interstate 540 in Rogers. Arkansas State Police say a 2004 Dodge Durango was southbound on the highway when it went out of control in a curve, hit a guardrail and then struck the wall.

Passenger Bruce Kanki died at the scene. The driver, 24-year-old Daniel Naisher of Springdale, and another passenger, 28-year-old Allee Naisher of Springdale, were taken to Mercy Hospital in Rogers with unspecified injuries.

Conditions at the time of the wreck were described as wet with snow falling.

The death was the 52nd fatality in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
