TULSA, Okla. — Sentencing has been postponed for a 25-year-old man convicted of shooting into a crowded Tulsa plaza in 2012 and wounding a sheriff's deputy and a bystander.
Sentencing for Andrew Dennehy scheduled in Tulsa County District Court Monday was postponed due to a winter storm. A new sentencing date was not immediately set.
Dennehy was convicted in January by jurors who rejected his claim of insanity. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
Dennehy's family argued that he was a paranoid schizophrenic plagued by bizarre thoughts and delusions and should be treated at a hospital, not sent to prison.
Authorities say Dennehy wandered barefoot onto the plaza between the Tulsa County courthouse and Tulsa Central Library in 2012 and opened fire.
Deputies arrived and returned fire and wounded Dennehy.
