LR man arrested in shooting, battery

A 46-year-old Little Rock man remained in jail Monday after his weekend arrest on charges stemming from two altercations - including a shooting - last month, police said.

Henry Williams was arrested shortly before noon Saturday at his home on Short Spring Street and charged with first-degree battery, aggravated assault on a family member and third-degree domestic battery in the two altercations, which occurred within an hour of each other one week before his arrest.

The more serious altercation occurred at 3:19 p.m. on Feb. 22 when officers responded to a shooting and found 32-year-old Jason Winston lying next to his residence near East 33rd Street and South Broadway. He had been shot in the legs.

Winston told officers he was washing his truck when a man approached and asked whether he knew someone named “Steven.”

When Winston said he didn’t know anyone by that name, the man pulled out a handgun and started shooting at Winston before “calmly” walking away from the scene, police said.

Between 2 and 2:30 p.m., Casandra Thomas, 39, told police she was arguing with Williams at Williams’ house when the 5-foot-11-inch, 200-pound man grabbed her by the hair and begun punching her in the face.

When he tried to pull Thomas into the house, he pistol-whipped a man who attempted to intervene, police said. Once inside, Thomas said Williams choked her and kneed her in the face.
