Pulaski County agencies adjust trash routes around winter weather

Several public works departments in Pulaski County are altering their weekly trash collection routes after Sunday night’s winter storm halted several businesses, government departments and schools on Monday.

Each department has devised a plan to recover and return to their original collection routes, with Little Rock Public Works running Monday’s trash collection routes on Tuesday afternoon to make up for the lost time as conditions allow, according to a statement from Little Rock spokesman Ben Thielemier. While trash collection will be delayed up to a day as a result, residents are asked to put their trash bins out on their regularly scheduled day.

North Little Rock Public Works crews also pushed Monday’s route to Tuesday. Spokesman Nathan Hamilton said sanitation workers will be working extra hours to catch up on their routes, weather permitting, throughout the rest of the week and hope to be back on a normal schedule on Saturday.

Hamilton added that those on the North Little Rock routes should also put their trash bins out on their regular days.

In Maumelle, Assistant Public Works Director Joanie Smith said that sanitation workers are just working a day late on their routes after not making their rounds on Monday due to the weather. A phone call to Sherwood Public Works was not immediately returned.
