Woman killed in early morning fire in Pine Bluff

A woman was found dead in a fire early Tuesday morning in Pine Bluff, authorities said.

Pine Bluff Deputy Fire Chief Ernest Jones said the woman, whose name has not been released, was the only person inside 5609 Kennedy St. when crews responded before 6 a.m.

The single-family home was fully engulfed when firefighters first arrived, Jones said.

Jones said the fire remains under investigation, but officials were looking at a space heater as the cause.

"She did have space heaters inside the home," he said. "With it being extremely cold, we're pretty sure they were in use. But we haven't confirmed that that was the cause."
