House backs bill to block EPA power plant rule

By The Associated Press

This article was published March 6, 2014 at 10:35 a.m.

WASHINGTON — The Republican-controlled House has moved to block the president's plan to limit carbon pollution from new power plants.

The House approved a bill Thursday targeting the power plant rule, as Republicans fight back against what they call the Obama administration's "war on coal."

President Barack Obama's proposal is a key part of his plan to fight climate change. It would set the first national limits on heat-trapping pollution from future power plants.

The House bill was approved 229-183. It would require the Environmental Protection Agency to set carbon emissions standards based on technology in use for at least a year.

Republicans and some coal-state Democrats say the EPA rule is based on carbon-capturing technology that does not currently exist.

The White House has threatened a veto.

Coal fired power plants are switching to natural gas, it's that simple. Do you understand the word NEW? So, how will that affect this summers bills? If they go up it's just the utility companies raping just like the oil companies did this winter with propane prices, it's just that simple.

"NEW" cost money, and who do you think is going to pay for "NEW"?

Have you ever heard of the story about the boy that cried wolf? Over the last 15 years, I can think of nothing, of any importance, that the GOP has said that has come to fruition. Nothing. Almost everything of our countries positions is better now than it was 8 years ago. With a constant head wind of people trying to derail the country. Except for inequality - which the GOP says doesn't exist.
The people that post here are such right-wing-wing-nuts (and I mean that respectfully, for I presume you have neither the education, willingness or openness to challenge your preconceived notions) . It's the same stupid stuff I see on Fox everyday. The GOP knows this about you. And they are exploiting it. Kind of like talking a child out of their candy. See CPAC convention.
