The man who was fatally shot by a North Little Rock police officer on Wednesday afternoon has been identified.

Robert J. Storay, 52, was shot at least once by the unnamed officer just after noon, after authorities were called to the 400 block of Maple Street about a man causing a disturbance on a Central Arkansas Transit bus, the North Little Rock Police Department said.

Officers made contact with Storay, who police say began assaulting at least one officer with a cane. He was shot as a result, taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock for treatment and was later pronounced dead.

The investigation remains open, North Little Rock police said.

In October 2010, Storay sued the city of Little Rock and the Little Rock Police Department in a “civil rights action,” according to court documents. The allegations presented in the suit weren't immediately available; the lawsuit was later dismissed.
