Beebe to make ‘significant' jobs announcement Monday

Gov. Mike Beebe is set to announce about a “major job creation” opportunity Monday, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission said Friday.

The announcement will be made at 10 a.m. at the Capitol, the commission said in a statement.

Details concerning the announcement, such as how many job would be added, were unclear. Several messages to the governor’s office and the commission were not immediately returned Friday afternoon. However, a previous report in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette stated that $135 million in revenue bonds are set to be awarded to build a Peco Foods Inc. poultry plant in Randolph County in the northeast part of the state. That announcement is expected to take place Monday in Little Rock, the newspaper reported.

The bonds are will be used to “finance the cost of acquiring, building and equipping” a poultry-processing plant in the region, according to the article.

The Tuscaloosa, Ala.-based company originally invested $13.8 million in operations in Arkansas in 2012.
