Work on Interstates 55, 40 to require lane closures

Road work on Interstate 40 and Interstate 55 in the northern section of West Memphis will require several lane closures in the area, according to a statement from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

The closures will be necessary as crews attempt to “reconstruct” the two roadways, along with Arkansas 131, also known as Mound City Road, the news release states.

The closures will begin with westbound I-40, which will be reduced to one lane on Monday. Both interstates share the same lanes at that point on the road, so I-55 will be reduced to one lane in this area as well, according to the release.

A concurrent closure will reduce I-55 northbound to one lane in the area as well.

Drivers are asked to be cautious when traveling in the area. Barrels and warning signs will be in effect to warn motorists of the construction.
