2014 SPORTS HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

Midmatch, golfer takes flier to Hall of Fame induction

It’s a strongly football-basketball kind of group, the 2014 induction class to the state sports Hall of Fame, so it’s funny to think that the only one still active as a player - indeed, halfway through a four-day tournament - is Ken Duke,a PGA Tour member who on Feb. 28 was one under par at the Honda Classic at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., when he hopped a plane after his second round and arrived in Little Rock with just minutes to spare before the banquet at the Statehouse Convention Center.

He joined classmates David Bazzel (college football), Gary Blair (women’s college basketball coach), Bennie Fuller (high school and college basketball), Stephanie Strack Mathis (basketball),Dennis Winston (pro football), Don Campbell (high school football coach), Alvy Early (college women’s basketball and softball coach), Ken Stephens (college football) and representatives for Jim Barnes (pro basketball) and Harry Vines (wheelchair basketball coach).

Guests watched sports highlight clips of past Hall of Fame inductees including Scottie Pippen and Jerry Jones. Four scholarship winners were presented: Jonathan Clemons of Fort Smith, Michael Post of Mayflower,Michelle Moore of Bentonville and Falyn Farmer of Jordan. The Crain Automotive Team was this year’s “Star of Tomorrow” award winner. Then the 11 inductees were presented.
