James Mixon, U.S. bankruptcy judge, dies at 72

The Little Rock Police Department has confirmed that a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge in Little Rock has died.

Judge James Mixon, 72, was found unresponsive by his wife, Robbie Mixon, 59, early Monday morning in his home at 3103 Shenandoah Valley Drive, according to a Little Rock Police Department report. Robbie Mixon called 911 about 4:48 a.m., but Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services officials couldn't resuscitate her husband, the report states.

Robbie Mixon told police that her husband had been suffering from bronchitis and a blood disease and was taking multiple medications for high blood pressure and diabetes, according to the report.

She said she last saw her husband alive at 10 p.m. and that he had recently asked her to sleep in another room so he wouldn't disturb her.

James Mixon was appointed to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court on March 26, 1984, and served as its chief judge from Feb. 1, 1993, to Dec. 31, 2002, according to the website for the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Mixon had retired from his full-time position in 2006, but later returned to the bench on "recall" status, which is when a retired judge is retained to help relieve a heavy caseload, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported.
