Allen Maxwell, Monticello mayor, dies at 70

Monticello Mayor Allen Maxwell has died, a spokesman with the mayor’s office confirmed Monday afternoon.

Maxwell, 70, passed away Monday morning, according to a statement from the office. The cause of Maxwell’s death wasn’t disclosed.

“The City of Monticello deeply mourns his passing,” the news release states. “His service to the City was unmeasurable. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later time."

Maxwell, who was born in Warren, was in his first term as mayor of Monticello after spending time as a state representative for the city.
