Kitchen knife used in stabbing attack

A homeless man was arrested Saturday after police said he stabbed another man with a kitchen knife.

Lashaun Gray, 36, was arrested and charged with first-degree battery. He was taken to the Pulaski County jail and held in lieu of a $25,000 bond, according to the jail’s online inmate roster.

Gray was at the Village Green Apartments at 7601 N. Chicot Road when he stabbed Freddie Baker, 29, several times with a kitchen knife, according to an arrest report. Baker was taken to UAMS Medical Center where he was being treated for life-threatening injuries, the report states.

Gray was arrested at the apartment complex just before 3:30 p.m., the report states. The report didn’t say what led to the stabbing.

Failed purse theft ends with charges

A Little Rock man accused of assaulting an elderly woman while trying to snatch her purse was arrested Saturday, according to an arrest report.

John Withers, 41, was arrested and charged with robbery and second-degree battery. He was taken to the Pulaski County jail, where he is awaiting a bail hearing.

About 8 p.m., Nancy Perritt, 69, was in the Junior League of Little Rock parking lot at 401 S. Scott St. when Withers “attacked” her in an attempt to grab her purse, the report states. Perritt fought off Withers until Little Rock police got there, the report states.

Perritt suffered injuries to her arms, face and head, police said.

Police: NLR teacher had ‘pot’ in vehicle

Jacksonville police arrested a North Little Rock School District teacher Saturday after finding him with marijuana during a traffic stop, according to an arrest report.

About 9:30 p.m., police stopped a vehicle that rolled through a stop sign at Municipal and North Redmond roads, the report states. The police sergeant pulled the vehicle over at 1 Pinewood Court and spotted tobacco and “an open package of Swisher Sweet cigars” in the vehicle, the report states.

The sergeant asked whether the driver, Kerry Evans Jr., or a female passenger smoked, but both said no, prompting the sergeant to call for a police dog, the report states.

The dog alerted officers to the presence of drugs, and they found a plastic baggie with marijuana in the storage compartment of the driver’s door, police said.

Evans, 23, of North Little Rock was arrested and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was taken to the Pulaski County jail but was no longer there Saturday.

The report does not state whether the female passenger was arrested.
