Highway work to close lanes in Garland, Saline counties

Sections of U.S. 70 in Garland and Saline counties will be closed as crews perform work in the area this week.

According to a statement from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, geotechnical drilling and sampling will occur Tuesday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on certain sections of the highway between Hot Springs and Interstate 30, weather permitting.

The work and first lane closure will begin on a section of the eastbound lane on U.S. 70, just east of the Hot Springs Bypass, to the Interstate 30 junction. Once that work is complete, crews will move on to the westbound lane of U.S. 70 — starting at I-30 and moving toward Hot Springs, the release states.

Cones and flag monitors will be in the area to control the traffic and allow drivers to pass on the opposite side of the one-lane road. Drivers are asked to be cautious when driving in the area.
