A 35-year-old Little Rock woman is accused of leaving her two children in a car with a loaded gun while she shopped at a local department store, authorities said.

Betty Wright was arrested Monday afternoon on two counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.

According to a Little Rock Police Department report, officers responded about 4:45 p.m. to the Marshalls at 16105 Chenal Parkway and found Wright's 1-year-old and 8-year-old alone in a car "with a loaded 9mm pistol."

Police went inside the store and found Wright after a 20-minute search, the report said, noting she was "pushing a buggy with clothes in it" at the time.

The Division of Child and Family Services took custody of the children, who were not injured.

According to the report, Wright's bail was set at $4,000 and a preliminary court date was scheduled for Monday.

A spokesman for the Pulaski County sheriff's offfice said Wright posted bail and was released shortly after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The arrest report listed Wright's employer as the Little Rock School District. A spokesman for the district said Wright has previously served as a substitute teacher but has not worked in that capacity in two years.
