SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco firefighters are putting out hotspots on a condominium construction site that broke out in flames Tuesday night and threatened nearby buildings.

Television news footage Wednesday morning showed firefighters on ladders pouring water on the burned apartment building.

The blaze in the city's Mission Bay neighborhood began about 5 p.m. Tuesday and quickly grew to five alarms.

Nearby buildings were evacuated as more than 150 firefighters battled the flames. One of the six-story structure's walls collapsed about an hour after the fire began, and the rest of the building was not expected to remain standing.
