•–––––RICHA DEAN BELL, 90, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died Monday, March 10, 2014, at her home. She was born June 2, 1923, in Bigelow, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Dan and Lena (Caldwell) Loomis. She was also preceded in death by sons, Ray Bell and Larry Bell; brothers, Daniel and Raymond Loomis; and her daughter-inlaw, Wilma Shue. Mrs. Bell was retired from the Timex Corporation; and was a member of the Rosedale Baptist Church for many years; most recently she was a member of South Highland Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Loal B. Bell; her daughter, Linda Kay Fair and husband Mike; her sister, Margaret Sisco; daughter-in-law, Linda Bell Stanford; 6 grandchildren, Ray Bell, Hollie Kennedy, Shana Banks, Selena Newby, Joey Fair and Amy Hopper; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral will be at 11 a.m., Friday in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Memorial Park, under the direction of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth. 501-661-9111

•–––––Our beloved daughter and sister, TAMARA MICHELLE BELL, 49, of Little Rock, passed from this life at her home on Monday, March 10, 2014. She was born November 19th, 1964 in Stuttgart, Germany to Carroll and Sandra Bell. She was a graduate of Little Rock Central and the University of Arkansas where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was employed at US Able in Little Rock and a member of Hollywood (Ark.) Methodist Church.

She is survived by her parents, Carroll and Sandra Bell of Hollywood, Arkansas, her brother and sister-in- law, Trey and Amy Bell of Harrison, Ark., her beloved nephew, Clifton Bell of Harrison, Ark. and her grandmother, Vivian Duke, of Arkadelphia, her cousins, Jim and Chris Bryan and Evan Bell, all of Little Rock, Julee Turner and Elizabeth Hill of Arkadelphia, and Carolanne Pinegar of Nashville, Ark. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Carroll and Helen Bell of Hollywood, Ark. and her maternal grandfather, Vernon Duke, of Arkadelphia.

Michelle was a fun-loving, free spirited person who loved spending time with her family, many friends, and her adored faithful dog, Oliver. She loved spending time outdoors.

There will be a visitation at Hollywood Methodist Church in Hollywood, Arkansas on Friday, March 14th at 1 p.m. followed by services at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Arkadelphia. Memorials can be made to Pulaski County Humane Society or Clark County Humane Society.

•–––––CYNTHIA ROCHELLE BEULAH, daughter of the late Lois and Lonnie Beulah, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014. She was predeceased by her parents; five brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by five sons, Robert Penn Jr., Eric Beulah, Derrick Witherspoon, Lonnie (Melody) Beulah and Ronnie Beulah all of Little Rock; sister, Linda Springer, Little Rock; brother, Michael Beulah, Los Angeles; two grandson; two granddaughters; loving, trusted and faithful caregiver, Franisha Witherspoon, fiancee’, Charles Redman; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

•–––––BENJAMIN (BEN) POWELL BREWER, 21, of Little Rock, passed away March 10, 2014. He was born August 28, 1992 in Little Rock to Gregory Lee Brewer and Mary Virginia Keeter Dean. Ben loved rescuing animals, fishing, hiking and being in nature. He had a deep connection with the community of SOMA, Vino’s and all his friends and memories at Fayetteville. Ben loved working with friends and his work family at Watts, Donovan and Tilley.

He is survived by his father, Gregory Lee Brewer and mother, Mary Virginia Dean, brothers, Gregory Holt Brewer and Ryan Wesley Smith, grandparents, Harless Brewer, Virginia Caldwell, Gary Keeter and Ken Dean.

•–––––MARY LOU AUEN DORPINGHAUS, 74, of Maumelle passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014. She was born in Carroll, Iowa, to the late Peter Joseph and Henrietta Stoffel Auen. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patricia Millhollin and brother-in-law, Tom Millhollin.

Mary Lou was a homemaker and a daycare provider she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin F. Dorpinghaus and two daughters, Lori Patterson of Maumelle and Julie Nevills (Dennis) of Davenport, Iowa; and the joy of her life two grandchildren, William Drake Patterson and Emeleigh Justine Nevills; and a host of other family and friends.

•–––––CARL GLENN of Little Rock died Friday, March 7, 2014. He was born June 8, 1938, in Konawa, Okla., the second child of Mattie Fife Glenn and Carl E. Glenn Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Turner Glenn; his daughter, Sharon Glenn Boyd, her husband, Patrick; and the loves of Carl’s life, granddaughters Ashlyn Kate and Erin Elisabeth; two nephews, David Glenn and Jon Glenn; two special nieces, Kari Adcock and Megan McDavitt; and his best buddy, Mozart “Mo” Glenn also survive him. Carl’s parents, one sister, and one brother preceded him in death.

Carl graduated from Batesville High School, Batesville, Ark., and from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a degree in Agriculture. For over 20 years, he worked in institutional food sales.

Carl was an active member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church. He served as a “big brother” in the early days of the Big Brother Program and was active in prison ministry. He found the most pleasure in spending time with his family and working in his garden.

For 30 years, Carl regularly kept a journal-and regularly offered thanks on these pages. He ended every journal entry with these words. “Thank you, God—-Amen! CG.”

A memorial service,conducted by Rev. Frank LeBlanc, will be held at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 15. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 a.m. in the Westover Hills Chapel.

•–––––JAMES ALFRED GOGUS, 76, of Little Rock, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014. He was born in Whitesville, West Virginia, to Gus and Nella Cook Gogus. He retired from Windsor Door.

Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Woodie Nadine Gogus; sons, Mickey Allan Gogus and wife, Teresa of Bryant and Charles Steven Gogus of Virginia Beach, Virginia; stepsons, Brian Paul Burnett and Brad Keith Burnett, both of Little Rock; brother, Roger Dale Gogus and wife, Penny of Bloomrose, West Virginia; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

•–––––SARA FORMAN HIRT, 88, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away on February 13, 2014. She was born in Indianola, Miss., to J.M. Forman and Bertha C. Forman. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in psychology. She was an active member of Highland Valley United Methodist Church, and previously, of Bryant and Mabelvale United Methodist Churches.

Sara is survived by her daughter, Tracy Marsh, of Bend, Ore., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son, Kenneth; and siblings Robert, Ruth, and Hubert.

•–––––MARY ETTA PRICE, 83, of North Little Rock, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014. She was a member of Gardner Memorial United Methodist Church. Mary retired from Pulaski Technical College, where she instructed the Dental Assistant program. She enjoyed antiques and loved ballroom dancing.

She is survived by her sons, Bill Price of Sheridan, Russell Price of Fort Smith and Steven Price of North Little Rock; sisters, Jo Eva McClain of Beebe and Kathleen J. Kinkel (Charles) of Little Rock; brother, Jimmy Miller (Carla) of Lonoke and sister-in-law Lou Ann Miller of Lonoke; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Clint and Florence Miller; husband, Bill F. Price; and brothers, Caroll and Tommy Miller.

•–––––MARTHA SUE (WEST) SPANN, 74, of Hensley, Ark., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. She was born on July 15, 1939 to the late Clyde and Leola (Beard) West. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Clyde E. Spann; granddaughter, Lauren E. Spann; and sisters, Dorothy Smith and Gloria Shoemaker.

Martha was a graduate of Fuller High School. She retired from the Pulaski County School District where she was employed as a bookkeeper at Fuller Elementary and Daisy Bates Elementary. She was a life long member of Lone Pine Missionary Baptist Church. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Flowers and quilting were two of her favorite passions in life. She always gave so much and asked for so little, she will be missed tremendously.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 54 years, Gene Spann; son, Michael Coldiron (Fronda) of Mabelvale, Ark.; daughter, Karen Spann Rodriguez of Cabot, Ark.; grandchildren, Joshua Coldiron, Jonathan Coldiron (Cristen), Thaddeus Fason (Shanna), Andy Spann, Chris Rodriguez and Katie Rodriguez; great-grandchildren, Ayden Coldiron, Madison Coldiron, Levi Coldiron and Saxton Fason; sisters, Pauline Beard (Joe), Claria Massey (George), Ellen Jeans (Elton) and Janice Skinner (Robert) and several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

•–––––F. LORENE (ORSBURN) WAHLQUIST passed peacefully at home in her sleep on March 12, 2014. Born April 3, 1921 in Gainesville, Texas, to E.W. and Susie Mae Orsburn. In 1925, she moved to Little Rock with her parents and two brothers, Milton and Pete Orsburn. Lorene graduated Little Rock High School and soon married Clyde O. Wahlquist Jr. They were married for 57 years prior to his passing in 1997. They had two children, Gary W. Wahlquist, (1942-1976) Grady L. Wahlquist and a very caring daughter-in-law Lesli Wahlquist, of Little Rock.

Lorene had many special cousins, nieces, nephews, family and church friends that she loved and loved her. Not having grandchildren of her own, she was often called Aunt Rene, or Granny Rene by many children and adults, and had many daughters and sons of the heart. She worked in the Little Rock Public Schools as a cafeteria manager and also as the Church Hostess at Gaines Street/Olivet Baptist Church for 22 years, where her homemade cinnamon rolls became famous at Wednesday night church meals, as well as the many couples that she catered weddings for. Lorene also served at Vacation Bible School at Gaines Street, where she became a member in 1948.

We would like to especially thank the Valentine family, Arkansas Hospice and our Springfield family and friends.

•–––––DAVID R. WYLES, 55, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014. He was born December 18, 1958 in Little Rock, Ark. He was a construction worker for 39 years.

He was preceded in death by father, Raymond L. Wyles, Sr.; and two brothers, Jimmy L. Wyles and Donny Wyles. He is survived by wife, Peggie Wyles; mother, Shirla Sue Wyles; two brothers, Raymond Wyles, Jr.; Johnny A. Wyles and wife, Cindy; and one sister, Elizabeth (Sissy) Bowerman and husband, Robert; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members.

•–––––BAUXITE — Leonard Floyd “Hoss” Cartwright, 71, of Bauxite passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in Little Rock. He was born February 1, 1943, in Dermott, Ark., to the late Leonard and Edna Ray (McDowell) Cartwright. Mr. Cartwright was a member of West Bauxite Missionary Baptist Church and had worked for Alcoa as a miner.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Hamilton) Cartwright. Survivors include two daughters, Kelley Brown (Roger) of Little Rock and Cindy Langley (Michael) of Benton; three grandchildren, Cory Combs (Adam), Riley Neal (Garrett), and Josh Langley; four great grandchildren, Sam and Aubrey Combs and Ayden and Avery Neal; other relatives, and many friends.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander with Bro. Melvin Burris officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, March 13th, at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home (315-4047).

•–––––BENTON — William H. “Bill” Price, 86, of Benton, began walking on streets of gold March 12, 2014. Born in 1927 to William and Annis Staton Price in Malvern, Ark. He was retired from Alcoa after 33 years and was a deacon and member of Holland Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He was active as a church leader all of his life. He was a Sunday School Superintendent, church treasurer, and Deacon for over 50 years, and Deacon Emeritus. Bill volunteered for 17 years as the supervisor of Holland Chapel Food Service for all church meals, bereavement foods and had many volunteer assistants.

He was preceded in death by first wife, Ruth Pettitt Price, the mother of his children. •–––––BLYTHEVILLE — Michael Leon Brothers, 63, of Blytheville, Arkansas, passed from this life Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at his home. Born in Millington, Tennessee, to Leon and Aileen Campbell Brothers, he was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church and was a farmer all his life.

Michael attended college at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He had such a passion for golf that he acquired the nickname “Midnight” because he often hit golf balls late at night into the dark. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Arkansas Razorback fan and he enjoyed fishing.

Michael is survived by his children, Traci Brothers McDoniel and husband Colin of Memphis, Tennessee, and Amy Brothers Riston of Blytheville; grandchildren, Kiefer Brothers Stallings and Danni Lynn Riston, and his parents, Leon and Aileen Brothers of Blytheville.

Mrs. Rankin was owner of Mary’s Grocery for 22 years, member of Pea Ridge Assembly of God Church, she loved to sew and quilt, and also known by her family as the “best hugger.”

After graduation from Dermott High School she enlisted in the US Air Force and was assigned duties at the Pentagon, Alexandria, Va. Upon completion of her enlistment she returned to Pine Bluff, Ark. and was employed by Jefferson County School District until she retired.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by an infant son, Phillip Vincent Mesa. She is survived by a daughter, Laura Beth Pendergrass and a grand-daughter, Ariele Pendergrass of Cottage Grove, Ore. •–––––MEMPHIS — Janet McKenzie Nix, 74, of Memphis, formerly of Hope, died March 7, 2014 at Baptist Hospital, Memphis, of complications following pneumonia.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, V.H. “Buddy” Nix Jr. of Memphis, and two daughters, Dr. Betsy Nix and husband, Andy Imparato of Baltimore, Md. and Sarah Nix Bell and husband Neil, of Lexington, Ky. She also leaves four grandsons: Gareth and Nicolas Imparato and Ezra Nix and Miles Rogers. Other survivors include two brothers, David (Mary) McKenzie of Round Rock, Texas and Bill (Margie) McKenzie of Fayetteville, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Janet was born on May 30, 1939, in Hope, Ark. to Dr. Jim McKenzie and Mary Wood Ross McKenzie. She was graduated from Hope High School as Valedictorian and from Southwestern at Memphis, now Rhodes College, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta.

She taught school after marriage and before children; then when her younger daughter began kindergarten, she went back for accounting classes at Memphis State (now University of Memphis) and subsequently became a CPA. She was employed by Conwood, and moved on to become Payroll Manager for FedEx, a position she held until her retirement.

She was a lifelong Presbyterian and at the time of her death was a member of Idlewild Presbyterian Church, Memphis, where, among many things, she served as an ordained elder and in the leadership of Idlewild Presbyterian Women, as well as the interdenominational group, Church Women United. She was a member and on the board of Chapter A of PEO for many years. An avid volunteer, Janet served the community and the organizations to which she belonged in many different areas, particularly those where her integrity and her accounting skills were valuable assets.

Services will be held Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m. at Idlewild Presbyterian Church, 1750 Union Avenue, Memphis, 38104. Visitation and Interment will follow immediately at the church. •–––––ENNIS, Texas — Montine M. Mashburn, 92, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 in Ennis, Texas. Montine was born in Mt. Vernon, Arkansas on February 7, 1922 to Vergil L. and Agnes (Henry) Matthews. She grew up in Mt. Vernon graduated from Mt. Vernon and went on to receive a degree from the University of Central Arkansas in education and a Master’s degree in Library Science and Education. In February of 1947 she married Ernest E. Mashburn, Jr. and they made their home in Little Rock, AR, then to Carlisle, Ark. and she moved to Ennis in 2002.

She worked for over 25 years as a Teacher and Librarian in Carlisle ISD. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carlisle, Arkansas and the Arkansas Teacher’s Association. She enjoyed reading, sewing, bridge, sports and traveling.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia “Corky” Porter and her husband, Tom of Ennis; two granddaughters: Becky Moore and her husband, Aaron and Cathy Porter; and three great-grandsons: Alex, Caleb and Michael.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernest Mashburn, Jr. in November of 1959 and one brother, Bill Matthews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Ennis Public Library, Family First Hospice, National Parkinson Foundation or the First Methodist Church of Carlisle, Ark. in Montine’s name.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Carlisle Cemetery with Richard Morris officiating under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. http://www.jekeevermortuary.com/.

•–––––ARLINGTON, Va. — Dr. Anna Lou Heatherly passed on March 6, 2014 of Arlington Va. Sister of Julia F. Heatherly of Arlington, Va. Daughter of the late Emmette and the late Winnie Heatherly. Dr. Heatherly began her teaching career in Virginia and upon the completion of her doctorate in 1970, she continued at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. In 1978, Dr. Heatherly began teaching in the Reading Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and remained in this position until she retired in 2001 and returned to her childhood home of Arlington, Va. During her time in Arkansas, she was instrumental in establishing the Reading Recovery Program in the state. Funeral services were held in Virginia. The family requests contributions in memory of Dr. Heatherly be made to Johns Hopkins Hospital, c/o the Anna and Julia Heatherly Fund. Murphy Funeral Home, Falls Church, Va.
