BUDDY REX ARCHER, 82, of Sherwood, born September 18, 1931, passed away March 12, 2014. He is preceded in death by parents, Willie and Bessie Archer. Buddy is survived by daughter, Donna Marie Archer; sons, Rex Eugene and Walter Carroll Archer; stepdaughter, Joyce Allen; six grandchildren, Rachel, Tammy, Scarlett, Rex Jr., Joshua and Caleb; two great-grandchildren, Cody and McKeel Clendenin. JASON STEPHEN BUTLER, age 44, passed away March 12, 2014at his home in Little Rock. Jason graduated from Kemper Military School in 1988 and was a self-taught musician. He was raised in the Baptist faith and attended Antioch BaptistChurch much of his life. Jason was a spiritual man with a love for art, music, and family. Jason was an active member of AA, serving as a sponsor and attending the AA Cosmopolitan Group in Little Rock. He was a loving father, brother, son, uncle, and friend, who will be greatly missed.

Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents Charles and Ann Rounsavall, and Ruby Butler. He is survived by his two sons Gage and Quinn Butler; and step-daughter Madison Balmat; his parents, Sandra Rounsavall Butler, and Tom S. (Becky) Butler; one sister, Meredith Butler (Benny) Scroggin; two brothers, Jared (Jessica) Butler, and Justin (Lindsey) Butler; and grandfather Stephen (Joy) Butler; aunts and uncles, Catherine Rounsavall, Mark Rounsavall, Jerry (Carolyn) Butler, Janet (Bob) Harrison; nieces and nephews, Mia and Monica Griffin, Jody and Wade Butler, Noelle and Liza Butler Scroggin.

JAMES ALFRED GOGUS, 76, of Little Rock, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014. He was born in Whitesville, West Virginia to Gus and Nella Cook Gogus. He retired from Windsor Door.

Preceded in death by his parents, he issurvived by his wife, Woodie Nadine Gogus; sons, Mickey Allan Gogus and wife, Teresa of Bryant and Charles Steven Gogus of Virginia Beach, Va.; stepsons, Brian Paul Burnett and Bradley Keith Burnett, both of Little Rock; brother, Roger Dale Gogus and wife, Penny of Bloomrose, West Virginia; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

JUNIOR KENNEDY of Jacksonville, Ark., was born September2, 1929 to the late Luster and Lula Kennedy in Fairbanks, Ark. He passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2013, at Cornerstone Hospital in Jacksonville. He is survived by his sons, Bryan Kennedy, Brett Kennedy and wife Donna of Jacksonville. Other survivors include his grandchildren Chelsea, Jessica, Spencer, Crystal, Jordan, and Colton; and three great-grandchildren, Mason, Faith and Brayden. DON P. MURPHY JR., age 81, passed away on Tuesday, March11, 2014. He was born in Little Rock and grew up in Texarkana, Ark., before moving back to Little Rock in 1958. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Kathryn“Dolly” Murphy and a brother, Dan Murphy.

Don attended The University of the South Sewanee, Tenn., and graduated from The University of Arkansas with a degree in journalism. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He served two years in the U.S. Army stationed in Paris, France.

Don was editor of publications for the Arkansas Education Association for 29 years. Active in civic and business organizations, he was a former president of the Forest Heights Lions Club, the Arkansas Chapter of International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), the State Education Editors (SEE) organization of the National Education Association, and the Little Rock Alumni chapter of Kappa Sigma. He is a former vestryman at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where he taught Sunday school two years, volunteered seven years on the Trinity team at Stewpot, and performed a variety of volunteer services for the church. He was also a former board member of the Gaines House and the Little Rock Racquet Club.

He played golf in his earlyyears and later became an avid tennis player and faithful participant in the water aerobics class at the Racquet Club. Following his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling, taking several cruises and visiting many parts of the world.

Don is survived by Beverley Robinson Murphy, his wife of 53 years, and three daughters, Kathryn Ann “KAM” Murphy, Allyson Kozich (Bob), Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Susan Muller (Jim), Little Rock. He leaves four grandchildren, Ashley and R.J. Kozich and Amanda and Meredith Muller. He is also survived by a brother, Dick Murphy (Dena), Sewanee, Georgia, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. LEANDER ESCO SIBLEY of Little Rock, Ark., born December10, 1916 in Liverpool, La., the second child of the late Aquila and Minnie Fields Sibley; made his triumphant transition on March 12, 2014 completing his earthly journey.

Leander spent his early childhood in Kentwood, La., and attended O’Dillard High School.

He accepted Christ at a very early age and united with the Temple Chapel Baptist Church in Louisiana. In 1944 he migrated to Los Angeles, where he joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. In 1963 Leander relocated to Duarte, Calif., and united with Second Baptist Church of Monrovia, Calif., where he served as: President of the Senior Usher board for 22 years, 3rd Vice President of the Union Usher Board of California, Southern District, Inc., instructor for the School of Ushering in the Western Baptist State Convention, and President of the Ushers Presidents Counsel. Leander moved to Little Rock, Ark., in August 1988 and united with the Longley Baptist Church and served as a senior usher, LBC Sunday School, and Men’s Ministry, He united with St. Mark Baptist Church, November 1996, and returned to Longley April 27, 2008 to be closer to home. He retired from Blue Diamond Steel Company in 1975 after 31 years and became an entrepreneur as a Professional gardener. Leander united in marriage to Lillie Mae Stewart and to this union their beloved daughter Norma was born. In 1954 he met and was married to Virginia Owens Johnson for over 57 years.

Leander was preceded in death by his parents, sister, brother, and his daughter Norma Gillum. Celebrating his life, his devoted wife, Virginia Sibley; five grandchildren, Cynthia Harris (James), Yvonne Fisher (David), Arthur Gillum Jr. (Vicky), Herman Gillum (Valencia), and Sherman Gillum; 16 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

BENTON - Winfred Palmer “Pete” Jones, 88, passed awayon Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Pete was born September 16, 1925, in McRae, Arkansas. He was one of 13 children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Light Jones; wife, Doris Minor Jones; sons, Steve Jones and Danny Jones; daughter, Vicki Jones Brown. Pete is survived by two daughters, Debbie Jones Brown of Bryant and Lisa Jones Fair of Alexandria, Va.; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Odell Harbison of Michigan and Betty Haley of California.

BENTON - Maxine Mildred Martin, 88, of Benton, passed away March 13, 2014. She was born September 19, 1925, in Traskwood, Arkansas, to the late Lee Roy and Eunice Crooks Callahan. Maxine was of the Baptist faith. She worked for Arkansas State Hospital for over 24 years, 15 of which she worked as an L.P.T.N.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leroy and John Callahan; and sister, Juanita Callahan. Maxine is survived by her husband, B.J. Martin of Benton; sons, Bennie Joe Martin (Joyce) of Lufkin, Texas, Don Edward Martin (Laurie) of Hot Springs, Stephen Gwen Martin of Lonsdale; sisters, Martha Ward (Mike) of Fayetteville, Betty Green (Lyndon) of Benton; sister-in-law, Lois Martin of Benton; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

BENTON - Virginia “Ginny” Simmons of Benton died March12, 2014, age 95. Born June 7, 1918, she was predeceased by husband of 71 years, Paul Simmons, and daughter Barbara, both in June 2009. Surviving children are Gary, David,and Mike Simmons and daughter Jean Miller. In her 71-year marriage to Paul she found her perfect soul mate. An inseparable team, they struggled, laughed, danced, worshiped, and loved while steering their marriage and rearing five children through the Great Depression, WWII, the 60s revolution, the computer culture and the challenges of growing old together. Through it all they remained the center of their family, providing encouragement and a moral compass that remains their legacy.

ELKINS - W. Edward Tarvin, 60, died Monday, March 10, 2014,from complications during heart surgery at a Fayetteville, Ark., hospital. He was a private-practice attorney for the Tarvin Law Firm in Fayetteville. He was a member of thebar associations of Washington County, Benton County, Arkan-sas, and Oklahoma, and was licensed to practice in state and federal district courts in both states and before the U.S. circuit courts of appeals for the Sixth District and for the Tenth District.

Tarvin was born Oct. 26, 1953, in Little Rock, Ark., the second child to William Edward Tarvin and Mary Elleen Wood Tarvin. He and his family lived in the Rose City section of North Little Rock until they moved to the southwest part of Little Rock before he entered seventh grade. He was a 1972 graduate of John L. McClellan High School and received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy that year. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from what is now the University of Central Arkansas in Conway in 1975. He earned his juris doctorate from the University of Arkansas Law School in Fayetteville in 1978.

He worked for Loislaw from 1999-2000, having been promoted to assistant to the vice president, director of marketing, until Loislaw sold to Aspen Publishing Co., a division of Wolters Klewer US. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fayetteville, the Fayetteville chapter of the Rotary Club, and Narcotics Anonymous. He was an avid supporter of the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Tarvin was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Carol Tarvin of Elkins; a sister, Joyce Wood of Little Rock; four children, Amelia Lynn Tarvin of Springdale, Lorie Ann Solis of Okinawa, William Douglas Craft (Kristina) of Benton and Jennifer Tarvin of Black Mountain, N.C.; three stepdaughters, Anita Dotson of Bryan, Texas, Wendy Conger of Fayetteville and Jennifer Klingaman of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Kalynn Tarvin and Joseph “J.J.” Lea Jr., and Langlea Craft, Christian Solisand Julia Solis; five stepgrandchildren, Kristin Conger, Lauren Conger, Brandon Klingaman, Erica Roberts and Stacy Dotson; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Taylor Dotson.

HAMBURG - James Meziere, 75, of Hamburg, died Tuesday,March 11, 2014, at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. Mr. Meziere was a native of Campti, Louisiana, and was raised in Oak Grove, Louisiana. He was a resident of theMilo Community outside of Hamburg for the past 45 years. He worked for Deep South and Ideal Construction for many years and faithfully attended Egypt Missionary Baptist Church. He was an avid cattleman, horseman, coon hunter and loved working a garden with his wife.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Leo and Ada Sanchez Meziere; seven brothers, Pete, Patrick, Robert, Paul, Raymond, Joseph and Eugene Meziere, and a sister, Mattie Meziere. She started teaching at the Carpenter School in Drew County when she was 17 years old and taught at Jerome, Dermott and later at Hamburg. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and an active member of the First Baptist Church having served on the flower and hospitality committees. She loved cooking, gardening, reading, cooking for other people, embroidery, playing Bunco and spending time with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Callie LaGrone Lloyd, seven brothers, and one sister. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Roy Walker Vaden of Hamburg; a son, Tim Vaden and wife, Julie, of Crossett; two sisters, Martha Chapman of Hamburg and Carolyn Beckham of Palatka, Florida and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with burial in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday. HEBER SPRINGS - Buel Lee Hensley, age 63, passed away March 6, 2014, in Marina del Rey, California. Born in Heber Springs, Arkansas, on May 12, 1950, he was the son of Wanda Reynolds Hensley and the late Buel W. Hensley.

Growing up in Arkansas surrounded by the beauty of nature no doubt influenced his decision to become a landscape designer. He completed his landscape schooling in Texas and eventually moved to California and established his business. Buel had an extraordinary talent for using the elements of nature-stone, water, wood, and foliage-to create landscapes. For his beautiful designs, Buel received numerous awards, including recognition by the Design Board of Hancock Park.

Buel was devoted to his family and supportive of his many friends. He will be remembered not only for his work as a talented landscape architect, but also for his kindness, humor, and generosity.

He is survived by his mother, Wanda Hensley of Hot Springs, as well as his cousins and many friends.

HOT SPRINGS - Mary Elizabeth Bryant McCrary, 92, of HotSprings, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Born August 30, 1921 in Baltimore, Maryland, “Deets” was the daughter of Rudolpha Mary (Sommerwerck) and Lt. Col.

Raymond William Bryant. The oldest of five siblings, her early childhood was spent as an ‘Army brat’ living around the world including the Philippine Islands. In 1934 her father accepted assignment as Quartermaster to the Army and Navy General Hospital in Hot Springs, the first joint services hospital in the nation. She graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1938.

She attended both Dodd College and the University of Arkansas. At Fayetteville, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, Mortar Board, and was a Razorback beauty and cheerleader. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and later with her Master’s Degree in Library Sciences. She taught in both the Hot Springs and Tulsa, Oklahoma public schools.

She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. At an early age she embraced Catholicism and her deep faith and love of the Catholic Church defined her.

She was past president of the Hot Springs Classroom Teachers Association, Garland County Medical Auxiliary, Hot Springs Junior Auxiliary, and past board member of the Garland County Cancer Society, Good Shepherd Center, and St. John’s School.

She was predeceased by son, William Donald McCrary, granddaughter, Courtney Leigh Mc-Crary and son-in-law, Jefferson Scott Gray, as well as brothers, Richard T. Bryant, Raymond W.Bryant, John T. Bryant and Robert M. Bryant. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Gray of Austin, Texas and her sons, Dr. Robert F. McCrary, Jr. (Stella) and Michael S. McCrary (Ann Shedelbower) of Hot Springs, Dr. R. Bryant McCrary (Margaret) of Gulfport, Mississippi, and J. Thomas McCrary (Valerie) of Dallas, Texas. She is additionally survived by 21 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 10 nieces and nephews, including Natalie Bryant and Beth Ann Horner whom she regarded as her own, as well as sisters-inlaw, Betty Bryant, Nancy June Bryant and Diane Bryant Null.

A friend to many and stranger to none, Deets will be remembered for her gracious kindness and compassion to all, believingthat “those who receive the most out of life are those who lose themselves in serving others.” Deets lived a life rich in family and friendships.

Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons: Scott Gray, Matthew McCrary, Stephen McCrary, Jeff McCrary, Sean McCrary, Jordan McCrary, Bryant McCrary, Michael McCrary, John David McCrary, Colin Mc-Crary, Chris McCrary, Jonathon McCrary and Nathan McCrary. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Martin Eisele, Edward Douglas, Dr. George Fotioo, Cecil Cupp and Walter Ebel.

PARAGOULD - Lee Horrell, age 84, of Paragould, went to be with the Lord March 11, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.

Lee was a devoted Christian husband, daddy, and grandfather. He loved attending church and sharing his faith with others. He was a very loving, patient man who had a desire to see the good in all. He was a dedicated educator who touched the lives of many students. He loved fishing and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was a member of New Haven Baptist Church.

Born December 15, 1929, in Truman, Ark., he moved with his parents at an early age to Hardy. He attended Hardy School District, graduating in 1948. After graduation, he volunteered to serve in the army, enlisting as a Private. He was promoted to Sargent prior to being stationed in Japan. While serving in Japan, he was deployed to Korea where he served as a medic and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for acts of heroism and meritorious service in a combat zone. He received a Battlefield Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant whileserving in Korea for 13 months. Upon returning to the United States, he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and became Company Commander of Company B, 17th Regiment, and 7th Infantry Division. This gave him the honor of being one of the youngest Company Commanders in the United States at the age of 23.

In 1951 he married the love of his life, Clella Anne Lee of Clover Bend. They have been married for 62 years. Following his service in the Army, he graduated from Arkansas State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and a Masters and Specialist Degree in Educational Administration. He taught and coached girls’ basketball in several school districts, and was high school principal at Williford School District, Sloan Hendrix School District, and Marmaduke School District. He retired in 1992 from Marmaduke with 34 years in education. He served as a deacon since 1962 and taught Sunday school classes at Hardy, Marmaduke, and Walnut Ridge. He became a Gideon while living at Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Edith Horrell, and great grandson, Jackson Cooper Danley. Surviving are his wife Clella of the home, a son, Scott Lee (Kim) Horrell of Little Rock; three daughters, Kimberlei Ann (Jimmy) Danley, Kelli Suzanne Harris of Paragould, and Kristi Kaye (Jody) Wiggins of Siloam Springs; eight grandchildren, MacKenzie and Caroline Horrell of Little Rock, Brad Horrell of Fayetteville, Cord Danley and Kendra (Tyler) Yeager of Paragould, Ethan (Kylie) Pugh of Little Rock, and Molli Pugh and Eli Wiggins of Siloam Springs; five great-grandchildren, Graycen, Karley and Karter Yeager, Avery Danley and Titus Pugh; a brother, Jack (Carolyn) Horrell of Highland; two sisters, Willie Ann (Linn) Garner of Glencoe and Mattie Sue Anderson of West Plains, Mo., and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was at Heath Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13th. Services to celebrate his life will be held at New Haven Baptist Church at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 14th with Brother Ron Pickney and Brother Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Bend Cemetery under the direction of Heath Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Cord Danley, Brad Horrell, Ethan Pugh, Jimmy Danley, Jody Wiggins, and Tyler Yeager.

HERNDON, Va. - Lacey Sachel Bradley-Story, 34, of Herndon, Va., passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014. She was born on November 18, 1979, in Santa Monica, Calif. She resided in Little Rock, Ark., during her youth and attended schools in the Little Rock area. She graduated from Little Rock CentralHigh in 1998. Lacey received her BA in fine arts from New College in Sarasota, Fla. She received her masters in finance and economics from Brandeis College in Boston, Mass., andher Phd in international relations from Northeastern College in Boston, Mass. She was the recipient of several academic awards including the prestigious Boren Fellowship. Lacey spend two years in Shanghai, China teaching at Shanghai High School. Upon returning to the United States, Lacey worked in the economic arena, taught at Northeastern University and was currently employed as a staff officer at the Department of Defense. In pursuit of personal and career goals, Lacey traveled extensively around the globe doing research and enjoying life. Part of her work included publishing papers in her field where she was awarded citations for meritorious work.

Lacey is survived by her father, Michael Bradly of Maumelle, Ark., one sister, Brie Alford (Jon) of Winston Salem, N.C., two nieces, Mackenzie Abigail Alford and Sloane Sachel Alford, and one nephew, Jackson Bradley Alford. She is preceded in death by her mother, Cindy Bradley, grandparents, Margaret and Harold Bradley and Joe and Maxine Wofford.
