Police say escape try led to injury

A Baxter County jail inmate was hospitalized Friday after being injured in a failed escape attempt, according to the sheriff’s office.

Cody Wadkins, 25, was in the recreation yard at the jail when he purportedly began climbing the fence about 6:45 p.m. Upon reaching the top of the fence, he became entangled in razor wire, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Wadkins was taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center.

The Bakersfield, Mo., man was being held on charges of fleeing, reckless driving, felony leaving the scene of an accident, property damage, possession of an instrument of crime, contempt of court and fictitious tags. He was arrested Feb. 28 in Mountain Home.

Wadkins now faces an additional charge of third-degree attempted escape, a felony.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery said in the news release that Wadkins would be returned to the jail after being released from the hospital.
