Arkansas becomes coordinator for national emergencies

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas has been named the National Coordinating State for the Emergency Management Assistance Compact — or EMAC.

The designation means the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management is responsible for monitoring nationwide events and the EMAC Operations System to make sure requests for assistance are met in a timely manner.

The designation is based on the home state of the Executive Task Force Chair for EMAC and state Department of Emergency Management Operations Manager Carol Walton was recently elected to that post.
