Beebe to speak at ceremony for dead firefighters

LITTLE ROCK — Gov. Mike Beebe is set to speak Saturday at an event to honor firefighters who have died while on duty.

Beebe will be joined by Lt. Ray McCormack of the New York Fire Department at the dedication of the Arkansas Fallen Firefighters' Memorial. The event will take place Saturday at the state Capitol grounds.

The names of 104 firefighters are engraved on a granite and limestone wall surrounding the Brooks Jackson Memorial Plaza. Two of those names are for Missouri firefighters who died while on assisting their Arkansas peers in Mammoth Spring.

Officials say additional names will be added each year, if needed, at an annual ceremony.

Family members are also expected at the event.
