Driver forced off LR road, robbed at gunpoint

This article was published March 18, 2014 at 10:15 a.m.

A driver was forced to pull over by another car and was then robbed at gunpoint by two men who got out of it Monday night in Little Rock, police said.

The 34-year-old victim told investigators he had just withdrawn cash from a nearby bank ATM and was driving in the 11200 block of Legion Hut Road when a white car swerved in front of him, forcing him to stop. It happened about 8:40 p.m.

Two men got out of the car and pulled guns on the victim, busting out the driver's side window and demanding the "money he just got," according to a police report. One of the men struck the victim in the mouth before they got the cash, the victim's phone and the keys to his vehicle, police said.

The victim suffered a bloody mouth and small cuts on his shoulder from the broken window, but he declined medical attention, according to the report.

No arrests have been made.

The robbers are described as black men of average height and weight who had shoulder-length dreadlocks. One wore a red sweater, and the other wore a dark blue sweater.

You are more likely to shoot yourself, a family member, or a friend than a robber. We have better self-protection options. Freedom from gun fetishes: try it!

I would suggest firearms training and practice shooting it before ever carrying one. Then the only one getting shot is the felon.

When I took the CCL class, the instructor talked about that scenario, and reminded us that when driving, think about escape options. Don't pull too close to the car in front when stopping at a light or sign, and don't forget your car has a reverse gear.

@dave.bolt - Dude, better self-protection options? You mean like allowing yourself to become a victim? How about a little liberation and freedom from liberal fetishes: try that, dude.

Y'all can attack ol Dave, but statistically speaking, isn't he right? Even a policeman's gun is more likely to end up being used on a family member or suicide than against a bad guy. A stat I remember from the 90s was 50 times as likely. I'm working from memory here, folks.

Dontsuffer, that statistic may be right regarding the actual "firing" of a policeman's pistol, but it doesn't likely apply to the "use" of it. The policeman's pistol doesn't necessarily have to be fired to be "used" effectively against a criminal. Just pointing it at them often does the trick, and the same can be true for a CCW.

On the other hand, having a CCW is not a guarantee that you won't be killed by a criminal, just like having a fire extinguisher is no guarantee you won't burn up in a fire, but both give you an advantage in many situations, and can place you in further harm if you don't know how or when to use them.
