The Rolling Stones on Tuesday canceled the first date on the band’s Australian tour after the death of fashion designer L’ Wren Scott, Mick Jagger’s girlfriend. The designer, whose company was heavily in debt, was found dead in her New York apartment Monday in an apparent suicide. Concert organizer Frontier Touring said Tuesday that a Stones show scheduled for today in Perth in Western Australia state would not go ahead. There was no immediate word on future dates on the tour, including a Saturday concert in Adelaide. The band is scheduled to tour Australia and New Zealand, then play a string of European dates starting in June. Scott was found dead in her Manhattan apartment at 10 a.m. Monday by an assistant; police said no note was found and there was no sign of foul play. Scott was found kneeling with a scarf wrapped around her neck that had been tied to the handle of a French door, police said. Jagger’s representative said the singer was “completely shocked and devastated by the news” of Scott’s death. Last month Scott, who was believed to be 49 but had not disclosed her precise age, canceled her London Fashion Week show, reportedly because of production delays. Accounts filed by Scott’s LS Fashion Ltd. in London show the company had liabilities that exceeded assets by about $5.9 million as of Dec. 31, 2012.

Kanye West pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery against a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport in a special plea in which he maintains his innocence. West entered the plea Monday through his attorney and did not attend the court hearing. He was sentenced to two years of probation, 24 anger-management therapy sessions and 250 hours of community service. The rapper did not reach a civil settlement with the paparazzo, and his plea cannot be used against him in a civil lawsuit. West was charged with misdemeanor counts of battery and grand theft after an altercation at the airport with photographer Daniel Ramos in July. Ramos claimed West punched him in an unprovoked attack and wrestled his camera to the ground during the scuffle. He said he was still taking medication for the injuries he suffered. Ramos is suing West and attended Monday’s hearing. Prosecutors declined to file felony charges against West, but city prosecutors decided to pursue misdemeanor charges.
