Train strikes, kills Beebe man

A Union Pacific train struck and killed a Beebe man in Kensett early Wednesday, the White County sheriff's office has said.

Officers were called at 2:54 a.m. to the Martin Luther King Avenue railroad crossing, where Walter Lee Hart, 58, had been hit and was pronounced dead, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office, the Kensett Police Department and first responders are investigating how Hart ended up on the railroad tracks.

Crossing and rail traffic had been delayed for several hours Wednesday morning, but normal traffic had resumed by 10:30 a.m., according to the sheriff's office.
