UA trustees to look at online university

The University of Arkansas board of trustees on Thursday plan to consider planning to create an online university that would offer a limited number of degree programs for adults who have trouble completing traditional classes.

The initiative is a response to a November 2012 board resolution directing the University of Arkansas System president to expand online education.

"Our state ranks 49th in educational attainment and if we are going to reach Governor Beebe’s goal to double the number of Arkansans with college degrees by 2025, public higher education must deliver quality educational options to non-traditional students who desire to attend college online,” UA System President Donald Bobbitt said in a statement.
