Firefighters work around the wreckage of a truck that caught fire in a wreck Wednesday on Interstate 440 in Little Rock.

Authorities have identified the truck driver killed in a fiery wreck on Interstate 440 Thursday as a Jacksonville man.

Arkansas State Police say Terry Harrell, 60, died in the accident Wednesday afternoon near the Fourche Dam Pike exit.

Harrell was driving 2009 Freightliner east on the highway when it burst into flames after colliding with a Chevrolet Impala, police said at the scene. The truck then hit a second eastbound semi truck, which also caught fire.

A preliminary accident report released Thursday indicated only that the wreck was still under investigation. Police at the scene said it appeared the Impala may have been going in reverse when the first collision happened.

The Impala driver, who suffered unspecified injuries and was taken to UAMS Medical Center for treatment, was identified in the report as Leigh Miller, 23, of Little Rock.

A passenger in the car, 21-year-old Devontae Akins of Little Rock, was also injured as was the driver of the other semi, 38-year-old Jose Arellano of Mexico, the report said.

The wreck closed eastbound I-440 and brought westbound traffic to a crawl for hours, snarling traffic in the area.

This is why you don't back up on the interstate. An innocent person is dead and 2 others injured because of that Impala driver. Driver's license should be revoked at the minimum, maybe negligent homicide charges too I hope.

Is this the same Leigh Miller who assaulted a toddler at Miss Carries Daycare about a year ago? If so, she seriously needs to go to jail and pay for her total disregard to the human race. I pray for all the families hurt by this young woman's stupidity.

I agree, it should be negligent homicide. This was so tragically unnecessary and easily preventable.

Out of state drivers beware when driving in Arkansas. We allow idiots to get driver's licenses here.
