Fishing this week

HOT SPOTS

LAKE ATKINS Several large bass have been caught over the past few days. There also have been reports of crappie being caught below the spillway on minnows. Catfish and some bream are biting in very deep on night crawlers and redworms.

BEAVER LAKE Crappie fishing has picked up using minnows fished 10-12 feet of water. Bass fishing is good in the Twin Bridges area using jerkbaits, Rooster Tails, minnows and live crawfish. Walleye are being caught around Neals Bluff and Twin Bridges on large minnows and firetiger or chartreuse crankbaits trolled along the first break to deep water from the bank.

GREERS FERRY Bass fishing is getting better daily, with many small males moving from deep water to areas near spawning flats. Wiggle Warts, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, football head jigs and finesse worms are keybaits this time of year. Walleye are moving back to the lake, but some stragglers can be caught upriver on grubs, crankbaits, drop-shot rigs and jerkbaits. Crappie are beginning to move shallower but they are scattered. Try using jigs or jigs tipped with minnows. Hybrids and white bass are hitting grubs, Rinky Dinks, in-line spinners, spoons and crankbaits all over the lake.

LITTLE MAUMELLE RIVER Crappie fishing is excellent using minnows fished around deep brush. As the water warms, the fish should move up on the shallow flats. Bass fishing is excellent and they are gorging themselves on shad. Fish a suspending jerkbait near the channel edge or a spinnerbait in the shallow flats just outside the channel.

LAKE OUACHITA Black bass are biting well. Football jigs and crankbaits are the most effective baits, but there have been some good reports with jerkbaits as the water warms during the day. Walleye are staging for the spawning run on main river channels. Lipless crankbaits and fluorescent jigs fished near structure are producing fish. Stripers are being caught on big grubs, hair jigs and Alabama rigs in major creek basins. Crappie are being caught over brush with minnows or crappie jigs.
