Black preschoolers more likely to face suspension

By The Associated Press

This article was published March 21, 2014 at 9:09 a.m.

WASHINGTON — Black students are more likely to be suspended from U.S. public schools — even as tiny preschoolers.

The racial disparities in American education, from access to high-level classes and experienced teachers to discipline, were highlighted in a report released Friday by the Education Department's civil-rights arm.

The suspensions — and disparities — begin at the earliest grades.

Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers who are suspended more than once, the report said. Six percent of the nation's districts with preschools reported suspending at least one preschool child.

Advocates long have said get-tough suspension and arrest policies in schools have contributed to a "school-to-prison" pipeline that snags minority students, but much of the emphasis has been on middle school and high school policies. This was the first time the department reported data on preschool discipline.

Not a racial issue - just means the parents need to get a grip on their kids at an early age and set them on the right path to succeed in society. If they can't conform - then perhaps a life in prison would be their destiny - but of course, the race card is pulled out as an excuse for poor behavior - AGAIN.

This seems to confirm that, on average, black students misbehave more often and do not perform as well as students,

There really is not enough information here to tell us anything. It's kind of hard to get expelled from preschool. Don't you have to bite somebody? The only kids I know who get into trouble have medical issues such as severe autism or they just happen to bite other kids or have trouble being potty trained. It is possible that racism is a factor or that these kids happen to come from rough families which use inappropriate language. There is just not enough information here to know why the kids are getting expelled.

Since Pop's jumping in with the possible racism I will wade into the shallow end. This must be the reason the stupid girl was backing down the interstate and killed an innocent truck driver. She was probably kicked out of her preschool and it wasn't her fault, it's just that she was black. Of course she is the same pathetic person who was fired from working at a preschool for forcing a 3 year old to take feces out of a toilet by hand.

I agree that the results do indicate that there is a serious issue and something should be done if possible, but to blame racism, as some are doing, is not supported by these data, and assuming that it is the cause would likely lead to an ineffective response to the problem.

Is it racism if those doing the "suspending" are also black?
.
This is obviously a rigged report - consider the source and the money the race baiters make by stirring up the Populists of America.
