Mother assaulted, parents robbed, police say

A Little Rock man is accused of assaulting his 78-year-old mother and then robbing her and his father by forcing them to write him checks.

Richard Plant, 40, was arrested about 10 a.m. Thursday on charges including second-degree domestic battery, two counts of robbery and two counts of interfering with emergency communications.

According to a Little Rock Police Department report, Plant "battered his mother" before forcing her and his 80-year-old father to write him checks. It wasn't clear whether his mother suffered any injuries.

Police say Plant also disabled both of his parents' cellphones and he fled from officers before being apprehended near his parents' residence in the 1400 block of North University Avenue. The same address is also listed as Plant's home.

He remained in the Pulaski County jail Friday morning with bail not yet set. A March 27 court date is scheduled.
