POCAHONTAS — Real estate agents in northeast Arkansas say they're seeing more business after last week's announcement that a $165 million poultry operation is headed to the area.

Peco Foods plans to build a poultry plant, hatchery and feed mill in Randolph and Clay counties, creating 1,000 jobs. Since the announcement, real estate agents have seen an uptick in business from people wanting to buy land.

Realtor Jana Caldwell told Jonesboro television station KAIT that many people are looking to buy land for chicken houses. Another real estate sales associate, Nathan Camp, says he's heard from people all over the country who are interested in buying land in Randolph County.

Peco Foods now has operations in Alabama and Mississippi, along with a processing plant in Batesville and a feed mill in Newark.
