Personal space

Nicole Capri

Where I live: I live in the historic neighborhood of Hillcrest in Little Rock.

Occupation: Resident director and director of education at The Arkansas Repertory Theatre

My favorite space: My living room.

Why? In the mornings, I love to sit on my sofa with my computer and my coffee and watch the sun come up and the world go by. My home is over 100 years old. It’s full of good energy and open space. The ceilings are high and the wood floors are original and worn and absolutely gorgeous. I’ve painted the trim in white-white and the walls with one of my favorite colors, “Amazing Gray.” My living room is my special retreat. I direct live theater - mostly comedies and high energy musicals. I live and work in a loud, high-profile and sometimes over-the-top industry. I need a clutter-free space to come home to and rejuvenate and remember who I am. In my living room, I am surrounded by light and comfort and some of my favorite personal things.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: My next project is to re-face the fireplace and convert it back to wood-burning. I know it’s messier and more expensive, but I love the nostalgia, the smell and the feeling of burning wood. It reminds me of my grandparents’ home.
