BALD KNOB Arkansas State Police is investigating a Monday morning stabbing inside a White County convenience store that ended with a local police officer shooting the suspect.
Around 10 a.m., Michael Taylor, 44, and Amy Collins, 34, both of Cave City, entered the business located at 115 U.S. 167, which is the address for the Exxon On the Run gas station, in Bald Knob. While inside the store, Collins purportedly stabbed Taylor with an unspecified weapon, according to a statement from state police.
Catherine Tate, a clerk at the Exxon station, was working when the stabbing occurred.
"The couple came in and they seemed fine. The man bought coffee and she used the restroom and they were acting 'lovey-dovey' with each other," Tate said. "Then they were standing in [an aisle] like they were going to buy something and she slit his throat."
Tate went on to explain that Collins cut herself in the throat about eight times before police arrived on the scene.
A local police officer arrived on the scene and ordered Collins, who was still armed, to drop her weapon. The officer shot Collins after she purportedly advanced toward the officer, the release states.
Tate has worked at the Exxon station for a little over a year and said nothing like this has ever happened there.
Arkansas State Police will investigate the shooting then turn its files over to the White County prosecuting attorney's office.
