Hillary Clinton in Tulsa to help launch initiative

TULSA — Former First Lady and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is scheduled to speak about an initiative that aims to boost the vocabularies and early learning abilities of young children.

Clinton and community leaders will launch the "Talking is Teaching" campaign Monday afternoon at a Tulsa school.

The program emphasizes how parents and caregivers can use simple actions — such as describing objects seen during a walk or bus ride, singing songs, or telling stories for just five minutes, three times a day — to significantly improve a baby's ability to learn new words and concepts.

Clinton will be joined by several community leaders, including BOK Financial Corp. Chairman and philanthropist George Kaiser, University of Tulsa president Steadman Upham and OU-Tulsa President Gerard Clancy, among others.
