Discussion set on Arkansas oil spill

— A panel discussion is scheduled next week on the effects of the Mayflower oil spill one year after the pipeline rupture.

Monday's event at the Clinton School of Public Service will focus on the impact the spill had on the surrounding community in Arkansas and beyond and how chances of a similar incident can be minimized in the future.

ExxonMobil's Pegasus pipeline ruptured in Mayflower last March, spilling thousands of barrels of oil in the community about 30 miles northwest of Little Rock.

Panelists scheduled to participate in the discussion include Faulkner County Judge Allen Dodson, Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin, Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel and Tammie Hynum, the chief of the Hazardous Waste Division of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, among others.
