Coleman proposes income, corporate tax cuts

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Republican gubernatorial hopeful Curtis Coleman is proposing big cuts to Arkansas' corporate and individual income taxes and says making those reductions are a higher priority than school funding.

Coleman detailed a series of tax cut measures Wednesday that he wants to enact if elected to Arkansas' top office.

He estimated the centerpiece of that plan, a proposal to cut individual income taxes 20 percent, would cost more than $2.3 billion over eight years.

Coleman is running against former U.S. Rep. Asa Hutchinson for the GOP nomination in the May primary, and has lagged in fundraising and organization. Former U.S. Rep. Mike Ross and substitute teacher Lynette Bryant are seeking the Democratic nomination.

Ross and Hutchinson have unveiled competing proposals to cut state individual income taxes.
