Ross criticizes Hutchinson over Clinton impeachment role

By The Associated Press

This article was published March 26, 2014 at 3:08 p.m.

Gubernatorial candidates Mike Ross (left), Democrat, and Asa Hutchinson (right), Republican.

Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Mike Ross is criticizing Republican rival Asa Hutchinson for his role prosecuting the impeachment case against former President Clinton, saying it showed how partisan the former congressman is.

Ross told The Associated Press it's up to voters to decide whether impeachment will be an issue in the race for Arkansas' top office this year. He cited it as the difference between his service in Washington and Hutchinson's. Both are former congressmen.

Hutchinson was one of the House managers who argued before the Senate for Clinton's removal over lies he told about his relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinksy. The Senate voted to acquit the 42nd president.

Hutchinson dismissed Ross' comments as "snarky," saying his rival was focusing on "ancient history" and he believed voters were more interested in the candidates' future plans than the impeachment trial.

Looking at Ross's voting record during his time in Congress. He calls Hutchinson a partisan. Pot meet Kettle.

I thought Asa did a great job. I watched an hour of the proceedings in person. While I agree that Clinton should not have been convicted for this, he did tell lies etc. and needed to get his hand slapped. He hardly is as clean as a whistle. These issues should not reflect on his wife or her candidacy for president, but Ross is out of line for criticizing Asa for being a fine lawyer.

What a goob!!! Why the heck would Ross even bring this up? Let's see... Was Clinton guilty...YES.. Did Cinton lie under oath... YES. Was he not convicted because of a Senate controlled by his homies...YES... Was Clinton disbarred because his lying nder oath..YES... What the heck does this have to do with the position of Gov in Arkansas 17 years later? Looks to me that Asa was defending the constitution. My recollection is Ross spent his time in Congress washing Obama's jock strap. If Ross wants to make this a campaign issue and defend Clinton (the liar in chief) let him run with that ridiculous issue. What a goob
