Central Arkansas Water crews work a stop the flow of water from a busted water main at the intersection of South University Avenue and Asher Avenue in Little Rock Wednesday evening. Traffic was being diverted and not allowed into the intersection.

A water-main break Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Asher and South University avenues in Little Rock has forced the closure of the intersection and multiple lanes for an undetermined amount of time.

John Tynan, director of customer relations and public affairs at Central Arkansas Water, said a 12-inch water main ruptured sometime after 3 p.m. after a private contractor doing work in the area bored a hole through it.

The intersection was closed as a result of the break and traffic was being rerouted through the area.

Tynan said crews were able to isolate the break around 5 p.m., but it may be close to 11 p.m. before the break is repaired and water is restored to affected customers in the area. The asphalt should be repaired by about 1 a.m.

Tynan was unable to provide a time for when the intersection would be reopened. Motorists are asked to avoid the area until all repairs are complete.

Gotta love these private contractors......Privatize everything,
Heck!! The more they screw stuff up, the more they can bill the taxpayers to repair their screw-ups.
The ultimate job security!!!!
