Arkansas GOP asks to intervene in voter-ID suit

By The Associated Press

This article was published March 27, 2014 at 10:42 a.m.

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Republican Party is asking to intervene in a lawsuit over how absentee ballots are handled under the state's new voter ID law, arguing that the Democratic attorney general can't properly represent GOP voters in the case.

The GOP on Wednesday asked to help defend a state panel that is being sued by the Pulaski County Election Commission for voting to allow absentee voters additional time to present photo identification if they don't include proof with their absentee ballots. The lawsuit claims the state Board of Election Commissioners overstepped its bounds by approving the rule.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said in a legal opinion absentee voters shouldn't be given the additional time allowed those who fail to show ID at the polls because Arkansas' law does not address it.

Crappy law gets crappy results and the ones who caused it all want to continue the farce. They were warned this would happen and it did. They were told there was no evidence supporting a need for such a law and they ignored it.

Worst. Legislation. Ever!

Jake - No need for such a law? You must not read much, other than the D/G. Voter ID is a National Problem! We would not have the moron in the WH now if we had effective, national voter ID laws. If we have to show IDs to cash checks, buy liquor, cigarettes or firearms, why is it an undue burden to show an ID to vote?

At first, I thought Jake was talking about Obama Care.

As a mostly democrat voter I see no fault in voters showing ID. I just wonder if those who have the right to vote and are too poor are able to get help in obtaining a proper ID.

ID fraud at the polling place is so rare as to be statistically insignificant.

This spurious "Voter ID" movement is nothing more than the Reich wing's attempt to keep the "wrong sort of folks, wink wink" from voting.

whoa clweber, are they the same "poor" voters that the democratic party expects to get online a buy health insurance?

Liberty, the moron is no longer in the White House, Obama succeeded him. But you're right, if absentee ballots had been handled legally in Florida in 2000, Bush loses; if all votes cast are counted properly, Bush loses; if ballots are constructed properly, Bush loses; if Katherine Harris wasn't such a partisan hack, Bush loses; if the Supreme Court ... oh never mind. I am worried that the GOP is trying to steal a key Democratic constituency, trial lawyers, by passing laws that produce so much litigation.
