Gravestone-preservation workshop set for Newport

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will offer a free workshop on tombstone maintenance next month in Newport.

Rusty Brenner of Texas Cemetery Restoration LLC, a Dallas-based gravestone-preservation company, will be on hand from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 26 at Gum Grove Cemetery to teach how to clean, reset and repair tombstones, preservation program Director Frances McSwain said in a statement. Gum Grove Cemetery is on Daugherty Street in Newport.

The workshop, which will include lunch, is open to the first 40 people.
