Parts of Arkansas could see severe storms Thursday afternoon into evening, the National Weather Service said.

Strong to damaging winds and large hail are possible in parts of north and west Arkansas. The Storm Prediction Center says the risk for severe-level weather is slight for those areas.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms that are not expected to reach severe levels are possible by midday across parts of south Arkansas.

Virtually the whole state, meanwhile, is under a lake wind advisory for 20 to 30 mph southerly winds with gusts that could approach 40 mph, the weather service said.

Another round of showers and thunderstorms is possible Friday, and some of those storms could also be severe for all but northern and Northwest Arkansas.

"Instability will be the biggest factor with the chances for severe weather on Friday, with southeast Arkansas likely seeing the greatest amount of instability Friday afternoon and evening," the weather service said in a statement.

Rain chances will diminish during the weekend.
