Van Buren man claims self-defense in father's shooting

This article was published March 27, 2014 at 8:57 a.m.

VAN BUREN — A Crawford County man charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his father says he shot in self-defense.

The Times Record reported that 54-year-old Eddie Hice of Van Buren pleaded innocent Wednesday to the murder charge and a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm in the March 13 shooting death of 76-year-old Herschel Velbert Hice at the home he shared with his parents.

Eddie Hice said he shot his father after the father put a pistol to Hice's head and threatened to shoot him during an argument.
